The Sylvesta Gilliam Hewlett Charity was established in March of 2018. Sylvesta Gilliam was a determined woman, raised as a sharecropper’s daughter, she walked miles to school to complete her elementary education. Acquisition of her secondary diploma required moving to the city and working as a live-in domestic as a young teenager. She later found her success through her entrepreneurial skills in Cosmetology. Sylvesta met and married Stephen C Hewlett and together they raised six children.
She maintained her salon which was established in 1947 until her unexpected departure at a young age. Her ambition and determination inspired her children to reach excellence in their fields of study.
The Sylvesta Gilliam Hewlett Charity was created as a blueprint of her entrepreneurial spirit. With a focus to empower and enrich those who may not realize their self-sustainable financial potential. The aim is to inspire, mentor, train and enrich people’s lives by exposing them to financial independence through entrepreneurship.
We believe that everyone can acquire a skill which will enable them to gain financial independence. The new skills acquired will not only give them a sense of accomplishment but also pride which leads to personal growth.
Entrepreneurship, Business Ethics, Social Media Marketing, Basic Booking and Personal Branding. These new learned skills can be applied to either an entrepreneurial business or better job opportunities, the goal is to earn extra income for a better quality of life.
